The Islamic State has threatened Israel with a “global war” The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday evening. The paper cited a recent newsletter by the Islamic State outlet Al-Naba that said the upcoming “war on Israel will not be limited by geographical boundaries or by international norms.”
The newsletter was translated and identified by the Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor of the Middle East Media Research Institute. “Israel feels threatened by ISIS because of the ‘collapse’ of neighboring states and the Sunni terrorist group’s advance toward the borders of the Jewish state,” the newsletter said.
Al-Naba claimed that Israel is already involved in the battle against the Islamic State in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt and Syria and warned that the entire world will be an arena for the fight against all “polytheist combatants, including the Jews.”
The Jews are legitimate targets because Israel uses warplanes to attack the Islamic State in Sinai and drones to spy on the organization, the ISIS newsletter claims.
“The collapse of the Sykes-Picot statelets, which were tasked with protecting the Jewish state; the approach of ISIS mujahideen toward its borders; (Israel’s) fear of the spread of its (ISIS’s) methodology among the oppressed Muslims inside those borders (i.e. fear that ISIS ideology is spreading among Israeli Arabs); and the manifest failure of the Crusader states who protect the Jews to win the battle against it (ISIS) – all these are factors that caused the Jewish state to not sit idly by in face of this danger,” Al-Naba wrote.
The ISIS outlet was referring to the fading borders of Iraq and Syria which were drawn by the Englishman Mark Sykes and the French diplomat Francois Picot in May 1916.
“This war is not going to be like those waged by secular, nationalist or communist movements, or by those that “falsely attribute themselves to Islam (referring to Hamas) since those battles were fought within the framework of the international order,” the Jerusalem Post wrote citing the Al-Naba newsletter.
“Islamic State rejects this ‘international order,’ and its war against its enemies ‘has no boundaries other than those which Allah prescribed on the Muslims in their jihad to make the polytheists submit to Islam’s rule – the entire world is an arena for its jihad; all the Muslims are potential soldiers in its army; and all polytheist combatants on earth, and the Jews among them, are legitimate targets for it,’” the Israeli English language newspaper continued.
Al-Naba wrote that Allah will enable its fighters to carry out the assault on the Jews and said that all those who are fighting in Iraq (and Syria) have their eyes on Jerusalem. The newsletter claimed that the Islamic State is more capable than any other army or terror group to attack the Jewish State because of its close proximity to Israel.
“Let the Jews bomb with their planes, they are not harsher on us than the Crusaders’ planes and Allah enabled us to persevere (against) those … With Allah’s permission they will be overpowered, and then they will be taken to hell,” Al-Naba concluded.
Israel heeded the Islamic State’s call to bomb its positions last Tuesday.
Arutz 1, the state-owned television channel, reported during its news show Mabat that earlier in the evening IAF jets had bombed the Islamic State for the first time since the existence of the organization.
The airstrikes were directed at positions of the Islamic State branch Yarmouk Shuhada (Martyrs) Brigades that controls part of the Syrian border with Israel on the Golan Heights. The Israeli warplanes bombed Ain Thakar 3 miles from the border and likely acted upon intelligence that ISIS was planning to launch missiles at Israeli communities on the Golan Heights.
